Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes: A Rare Look at Their Two Daughters

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes Kids: Names & Ages of Daughters

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are one of Hollywood’s most famously private couples. They’ve built a life together away from the glaring spotlight, carefully guarding the details of their family. While they rarely make public appearances together, their love story, which began on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011, has resulted in one of the most cherished off-screen roles for both: being parents.

The couple shares two daughters, and it’s clear that fatherhood changed Gosling’s entire perspective. He once admitted in an interview with GQ, “I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her”. For Mendes, the feeling was mutual and equally specific, as she stated that falling in love with Gosling made her want the little ones. Here is a closer look at their two daughters.

Introducing Esmeralda and Amada

The couple’s first daughter, Esmeralda Amada Gosling, was born on September 12, 2014. This makes her 11 years old as of 2026. Her name is rich with meaning; Eva Mendes chose “Esmeralda” after the beloved character in Victor Hugo’s classic novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Her middle name, “Amada,” is a tribute to Eva’s grandmother and means “beloved” in Spanish.

Their second daughter, Amada Lee Gosling, was born on April 29, 2016. She is 9 years old as of 2026. Her first name continues the beautiful family tradition, also honoring Eva’s grandmother and carrying the same meaning of “beloved”. The couple’s decision to keep their children out of the public eye has been a conscious one, with Mendes stating they have a “clear boundary” when it comes to their family life.

Life Away from the Spotlight

Despite their parents’ massive fame, Esmeralda and Amada are being raised with a strong sense of normalcy. The family has been spotted on rare outings, such as celebrating Amada’s ninth birthday at Disneyland in May 2026. In a sweet moment that highlights their family’s creativity, the girls even contributed to their father’s work on the film Project Hail Mary; directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller revealed the girls are “creative geniuses” and that Gosling’s genuine laughter in the movie came from his daughters doing silly voices in his ear.

Eva Mendes has been open about the challenges and joys of motherhood, stepping back from acting to focus on raising her daughters. She has described the role as “way harder” than her acting career but also emphasizes the importance of being present, once saying, “I know these moments are fleeting. I just want to be with them”. For Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, their greatest production isn’t a Hollywood film, but the loving, private family they are nurturing together.
