Inside Eric Bieniemy’s Private Family: Wife, Kids, and Marriage

Eric Bieniemy’s Wife and 2 Kids | Chiefs Coordinator Family

Eric Bieniemy, the longtime NFL coach and former running back now serving as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, has long kept his personal life largely out of the spotlight. While his professional career has spanned decades—from college stardom at Colorado to NFL playing days and a successful coaching path that includes Super Bowl contributions—his family has remained a steady, private foundation. Married for more than three decades, Bieniemy and his wife have raised two sons while navigating the demands of professional football and significant personal challenges.

Details about their early relationship are scarce by design. The couple wed in the mid-1990s, during Bieniemy’s playing career, and have maintained a low public profile ever since. They have shared few formal announcements or social media glimpses, preferring to support one another away from cameras and headlines.

Wife and Long Marriage

Bieniemy’s wife is Mia Bieniemy (also referred to in some reports as Mia Maxie Bieniemy). Born in 1968, she has consistently stayed out of the public eye even as her husband’s profile rose through coaching roles with the Chiefs, Washington Commanders, UCLA, and the Chicago Bears before his return to Kansas City. Friends and colleagues have described her as a quiet pillar of the household.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has publicly called her “a saint” and “one of God’s good blessings,” reflecting the regard in which she is held by those close to the family. The couple’s marriage, now spanning roughly three decades, has weathered the constant travel, pressure, and relocation that come with NFL life. They currently maintain a home in Ashburn, Virginia, an area connected to Bieniemy’s earlier coaching stop with the Commanders.

Children and Recent Family Developments

Eric and Mia Bieniemy are parents to two adult sons. The older, Eric Bieniemy III, was born with cerebral palsy and has required ongoing care; he uses a wheelchair. Mia has long taken a central role in managing therapy, medical needs, and daily support for him. Their younger son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, is in his late twenties. The family has generally been described by neighbors as quiet and private.

In late July 2026, the family faced a serious crisis. On the evening of July 26, Mia Bieniemy was shot multiple times at the family’s Ashburn home. She was hospitalized with serious injuries but was reported in stable condition the following day. Authorities charged 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bieniemy with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He was arrested and held without bond. Eric Bieniemy, who had been at Chiefs training camp in Missouri, left immediately to be with his wife. The team expressed support while respecting the family’s privacy, and Reid confirmed both Mia’s stable condition and that of Eric III.

Throughout his career, Bieniemy has occasionally spoken of the strength his family provides. The recent events underscore both the closeness of that unit and the profound difficulties it is navigating. As of the most recent reports, Mia remains stable, and the investigation continues. The Bieniemys have long prioritized privacy; that preference is likely to guide how they move forward from this difficult chapter.
