After announcing her retirement in 2014, she turned to food to cope with her emotions. Her struggles with depression, glandular fever, and a thyroid condition all played a role in her weight gain because they slowed her metabolism.

Jelena Dokic has responded to online trolls who she claims have bombarded her with negative comments about her body ahead of the Australian Open in 2023. Dokic, who is commentating for CNN affiliate 9 at the event, described the body and fat shaming she had received in the previous 24 hours as disgusting. She revealed that she is surviving and fighting while finding a way. And it doesn’t matter what she’s doing or what happened because size shouldn’t be an issue.

The former tennis pro has revealed that she was subjected to derogatory remarks about her weight while commentating at this year’s Australian Open in 2019. She pleaded with people to leave her alone after gaining weight, like many others, during Melbourne’s lockdown. It was very difficult for her mind to be in the world’s most difficult lockdown for six months and not be able to see her loved ones for 15 months.

Meanwhile, Dokic posted a side-by-side comparison of her appearance before and after COVID on Instagram, along with a lengthy caption telling trolls to get over it. She has always been open about her struggles with weight. She discussed her weight, which many people have done publicly. When she retired from tennis, she felt lost and her weight ballooned as a result of emotional eating and a lack of structure.

However, Jelena was forced into retirement with no idea where she wanted to go. She was unprepared, and this is where her weight gain began. The publication of her autobiography, in which Dokic revealed the trauma she experienced at the hands of her father and her subsequent battles with depression, proved to be a cathartic experience and a catalyst for her weight loss. And, Dokic underwent a remarkable physical transformation in late 2018 and early 2019, losing 53 kg after reaching her heaviest weight of 120kg.
